Emotional Energy is a strong benefit of group membership (society, a cultural group or structural group) is the emotional energy one receives from taking part in social gatherings. Durkheim called this "collective effervescence". Like the Atmosphere concert, when it gets quiet and then all of a sudden everyone sings the same song, all you hear are hundreds, thousands of people enjoying something without a care in the world. Or even at a Clippers game when Blake Griffin is about to dunk the ball... That feeling when thousands of people get silent and wait, watching to see if he'll make the game point. That feeling of connection with a complete stranger...
Gender Role Socialization is the lifelong process of learning to be masculine or feminine. Families are the primary source of socialization and greatly impact gender role socialization. This picture shows a little boy getting his "birthday punches". Since hes a boy, whether hes 8 or 18 years old, he has to take it like a "man".
Instrumental Role: Men more suited for the role of the person who provides the family's material support and is often an authority figure. These men working as police officers shows how masculine they are. Expressive Role: women more suited for the person who provides the family's emotional support and nurturing. This woman is being a mother to her child.

Social Stratification is the division of society into groups arranged in a social hierarchy based on access to wealth, power, and prestige. An example would be the grocery store, or the stores located around the area where we live. In the Low class there are stores such as the 'Discount store, Bargain Store, 99 cent store'. Yet in the High class they have stores such as ' Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Organic Stores'.
Stigma: any physical or social attribute that devalues a person or groups identity, and which may exclude those who are edeviant from normal social interctions. there are 3 main types of stigma, physical, moral, tribal.
Moral stigma signs of flawed characters, like this addict
And tribal membership in a discredited or opressed group, like this iraq woman.

Deviance is a behavior, trait, belief, or other characteristic that violates a norm and causes a negative reaction. Eating sloppy in public shows deviance because its not likely for someone to be eating sloppy in public. As infants we are told to have manners and shown the appropriate way of doing things.

Aggregate and Category are often mistaken for a group. Aggregate is a collection of people who share a physical location but do not have lasting social relationship. These people are all headed in the same direction, but don't have anything in common other than that.Category is a group of people who share a common attribute but don't think of themselves as having anything in common. This picture shows a picture of a tall man. people might think that anyone who is tall should play basketball but this guy doesn't play any sports.
